  • PABST. (Pray. Ask. Bless. Share your story. Tell/Teach the gospel.)

  • Write down 3 names in your booklet and take notes through PABST.

Matthew 22:34–40
But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Reflect

  • Copy, mark up, and spend the week with Romans 1:16-17.

  • Write up a few application ideas.

  • Memorize it for extra brownie points.

Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Here is a longer video of the late great RC Sproul teaching a longer bit on Justification by Faith Alone.

Summer Week 6 (Who are we?)

Summer Week 6 (Who are we?)

Summer Sessions Week 6: Who are we?

Videos From Sunday Morning

This first video is from a non-Christian educational group linked to PBS. It covers really well the basic idea of existentialism (all of these videos are really well done). We watched this video to compare this idea of the human condition to the one we find in scripture.

Reflect

Answer in your notebook:

  • Does anything from today’s study bother you? Why?

  • Imagine someone says to you, “I’m a good person so if there is a heaven, I’m sure that’s where I’m headed, right?” How would you respond to that?

  • What happens when we try and soften the Biblical teaching on sin?

Bonus Materials

Here is a great sermon by Dr. Tim Keller on sin and the nature of humanity:

Here is an article from the Gospel Coalition called, “Goodby, Faith in Humanity” about the problem of evil in human history and what that says about us.
