Let’s be honest, 2020 was not great. There were a few ups and a lot of downs. But while 2020 was a hot dumpster fire, it wasn’t the worst year in history. Our world is fallen. Sin has broken what God created, but the good news is that there is more to the story. Our King will triumph over sin and death and bring his people into his perfect presence.

But until he returns, we are called to live as a light in this fallen world. We are his people living with the storms around us. It’s a good thing Jesus planned ahead: he hasn’t left us alone in the dark trying to figure things out. He has given us his word to anchor our lives. He speaks to us in his scripture. Remember when we read Jesus’ parable from Luke chapter six?

Luke 6:46-49 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” 

As a church, I really want us to be a community rooted in the word of God. One way we are going to try and do that is our 2021 reading plan. We aren’t going to cover the whole Bible. We are going to start a little smaller. In 2021 we are going to read the whole New Testament and the Psalms. I’ve worked up this reading plan that covers about a chapter a day. You can download the whole reading plan here in a PDF or this two page PDF if you want to print it out and put it in your Bible or on your fridge, and we’ll also post here each week’s schedule of reading and some companion videos from The Bible Project to explain what you’re about to read.
